In a significant development in the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive against the Covid-19, the Union Government announced that people who are 45 and above can also get the vaccine doses.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Union Cabinet has decided to expand the ongoing vaccination drive and as part of this every citizen who is 45 and above can get the doses.

Rubbishing the reports of the shortage of vaccines, the Union Minister said there is no shortage of vaccines and urge every citizen who is 45 or above to register themselves as the beneficiaries of the vaccine.

The doctors will prescribe the best period to get the second shot of the Coronavirus vaccine. The second shot of the Coronavirus vaccine should be taken between four to eight weeks, the Union Minister said.

Under the ongoing vaccination drive, the Union Government is currently vaccinating the people who are aged 45 and over with co-morbidities. Two vaccines- Pune-based Serum Institute of India's Covishield and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Ltd's Covaxin are being used for the vaccination.

The union government's decision to expand the vaccination drive came after India is witnessing a massive spike in fresh pandemic infections. India added over 40.000 infections for two consecutive days.
