Veteran communist leader A B Bardhan was hospitalised this morning after he suffered a paralytic stroke. As per reports his condition was very serious and was "partially" responding to treatment.

Bardhan, who lives in the CPI Headquarters at Delhi felt uneasy and then lost consciousness. He was immediately rushed to the G B Pant Hospital in central Delhi where he was admitted in ICU.

Ab Bardhan was 92 year old and he is a former general secretary of the CPI. Bardhan has a son and daughter. Bardhan's wife who was a professor wife died in 1986. Bardhan has been a leading figure of the trade union movement and Left politics in Maharashtra . Bardhan moved to Delhi politics in the 1990s and became the deputy general-secretary of the CPI. Bardhan succeeded Indrajit Gupta as the General Secretary of the CPI in 1996.

Bardhan played key role during the formation of Maha Kutami with TDP in 2009 elections and he is considered as the stalwart of the Communist Party of India.
