Cricketer's political strokes hit Congress for a six
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Jun 2021 5:07 AM GMTThe biggest worry for the Congress in the poll-bound Punjab is a spunky cricketer-cum-witty commentator. Yes. You guessed it right. Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is turning out to be the biggest problem for the party. His spat with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is becoming not just more and more public, but also uglier and uglier.
Almost every day, these two leaders are going public with the criticism of one another. One day it is Siddhu and it is Amarinder the other day. This is hitting the party’s image very badly. Despite several appeals, both the leaders are showing no signs of relenting. The media too is lapping up stories of discord between these two key leaders. The party needs both the leaders. While Amarinder is the mainstay of the party, Sidhu is the most charismatic leader.
To bring the situation under control, AICC chief Sonia Gandhi herself has stepped in. She has appointed a three-member high-powered committee to talk to both the leaders. The committee has Harish Rawat, Mallikarjun Kharge and Prakash Agarwal as the members. They will work in three phases. In the first phase, they will talk to all the MLAs. Later, they will talk to the MPs and other key leaders to elicit their opinion. In the final step, they will meet with Amarinder Singh.
