Around 34 Percent Of Candidates Contesting In Bihar 2nd Phase Elections Have Criminal Charges: A Rep

The majority of leaders who are contesting in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly polls have criminal cases against them. Around 34 percent of leaders have criminal cases, media reports claimed.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in its report said that 34 percent of leaders out of the 1,463 candidates contesting in the second phase of polls were facing criminal charges.
389 candidates, which translate to around 27 percent have declared that serious criminal charges were filed against themselves. Cases with non-bailable charges with more than five years of imprisonment were declared as serious cases.
The report said Rashtriya Janata Dal(RJD) candidates top the list with criminal cases as 36 out of 56 candidates declared criminal cases, while 28 candidates face charges of serious criminal cases.
Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) is in second place with around 29 candidates out of 46 candidates declared criminal cases, while 20 candidates declared serious criminal charges in the election affidavits.
The report went on to say that around 49 candidates have declared cases of crime against women in their election affidavits. While 32 candidates are facing charges related to murder (IPC Section-302).
