Investigation into the stampede at Elphinstone Road Station in Mumbai has revealed some shocking facts.
Due to the heavy downpour, Commuters stood at the end of the foot over bridge to prevent getting drenched. Trains arrive at this busiest local station in Mumbai every four minutes. The crowd kept increasing at the entry point of the bridge.
A Flower Seller said 'Phool Gir Gaya'. This shout triggered a panic as Commuters mistook he meant 'Pul Gir Gaya' (bridge has collapsed). They assumed the old bridge might have been falling and ran to save their lives. It eventually led to a stampede claiming the lives of 23 people and injuring 39 others in just few minutes.
Allegations of Women being molested during the stampede surfaced. However, Cops ruled out any such possibility in such a situation.
