People of Chennai and its surrounding districts got the taste of Nature's fury with Cyclone Vardah. The winds were so strong that even the TCS Bus was overturned on OMR Chennai. Some of the locals have come to the rescue of people in the vehicle, putting their lives at risk.
Tamil Nadu Government has sought immediate financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore from Centre. Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has sanctioned Rs 50 lakhs for Municipality to clear the clear the trees and current polls on the roads. The overall damage is estimated to be around Rs 10,000 crore. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary has written to Centre seeking lower denomination currency to distribute to the people in crisis situation.
