Daniel Pearl murder case: Pakistan Supreme Court issues orders for Omar Saeed Sheikh

The al-Qaeda militant is the Prime accused in the case.
The case reached the Supreme Court after the Sindh provincial government filed a petition challenging the orders of the Sindh High Court's (SHC) to overturn the conviction of Sheikh. However, the SC has dismissed the plea and directed to release of the militant.Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh is the prime accused in the abduction and murder case of Daniel Pearl. It is said that the al-Qaeda militant beheaded the American journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002 in Karachi.
The South Asia bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal was abducted when he started investigating a story on the alleged links between Pakistan’s ISI and al-Qaeda.He was abducted in murdered in 2002. Saeed Sheikh is the prime accused in the case, while three others were also named the accused in the much-talked-about murder case.
Back in April 2020, Sindh High Court (SHC) has changed the death sentence of Omer Sheikh and awarded him a jail sentence of seven years. The three other accused were acquitted by the court.Following this, the Sindh government moved the Supreme Court challenging the verdict of SHC. Hearing the petition, the Pakistan Supreme Court dismissed the petition.
