New York City is turning out to be the worst-hit city in the US due to the novel coronavirus as the city authorities have cremated the bodies of the deceased who lost their lives to the virus.

With no place left to bury the dead bodies, they were burnt at the Hart Island a little far from New York City. A video was released which shows burying stacks of wooden coffins in a mass grave.

Reports emerged that more than 20 people were burnt at Hart Island raising many concerns and fears in the public of the city. All these bodies were burnt without the presence of the family members of the deceased.

"For decades, Hart Island has been used to lay to rest decedents who have not been claimed by family members. We will continue using the island in that fashion during this crisis and it is likely that people who have passed away from COVID who fit this description will be buried on the Island in the coming days," mayoral spokeswoman Freddi Goldstein said.
