Women ask to reverse GST on Sanitary Pads!
By: Tupaki Desk | 13 July 2017 12:24 PM GMTIndian Government introduced new single window tax system, Goods and Service Tax, GST. While few are still trying to understand how the tax system works under this new rule, women are objecting about the GST of 12% on the Sanitary Pads.
They are protesting this move of Indian Government on social media and also on roads by saying #DonotImposeTaxonmyPeriod. They are also asking how come condoms come under zero percent tax category while the sanitary pads that are most useful from during the menstrual cycle are taxable.
Any women in their life time goes through periods for at least 3000 days and they need on an average 6000 to 9000 Sanitary pads. But with GST, the pads have become more costly and as the women spend more than Rs. 100 on an average on these sanitary pads they are demanding for reversal of the tax on the sanitary pads. Each and every women of different ages are fighting and protesting regarding the issue and Indian Government that supports woman sanitation and Swacch Bharat is still taking time to react. This has angered the women further. They are expecting an answer from the Government sooner than later!
