Delhi aims to improve sports facilities to a level to bid for 2048 Olympics

The Finance Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia had presented the Budget for the financial year 2021-22. The Minister highlighted the importance the government will give to increase the sports facilities in the national capital.

Addressing the House, Manish Sisodia said, the government is focused to improve the sports facilities and the infrastructure in the city that, Delhi can bid for hosting the 2048 Olympics in the city.

The Olympics was started in 1896 in Athens. Since then, Delhi had never hosted the Olympics. The venues for the coming four seasons have already been fixed. The government is aiming to improve the facilities so that we can apply to host the 2048 Olympics, the 39th edition, Manish Sisodia said.

Elaborating more on the government's aim, the Finance Minister said, the aim may seem far away, but the bid has to be placed 10 years before the 2048 Olympics. To improve the infrastructure and to bring the players to win medals in the sports competitions leading to Olympics 2048.

Manish Sisodia said the National Capital has the best sports infrastructure and mentioned the instances of Delhi hosting various tournaments like the first Asian Games in 1951 and the 1982 edition of the Asian Games.

When asked if there was any discussion with the central government over working on the application process for the Olympic Games, Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, who addressed a press conference after the budget session said the state government will begin discussions with the Centre soon.

At the Press Conference, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, the government will hold discussions with the Union government in this regard and maintained that no such discussions were started so far.
