Demand Growing for Ordinance on Cockfights
By: Tupaki Desk | 16 Dec 2017 11:19 AM GMTAfter Supreme Court imposed a ban on Jallikattu, An intense movement was launched across Tamil Nadu demanding for legalizing the bull-taming sport. An ordinance has been obtained for allowing Jallikattu by mounting pressure on the Centre. Now, AP Politicians are seeking a similar ordinance to legalize Cockfights.
Cockfights are seen as an integral part of Telugu Culture/Tradition. Mostly, Rooster Fights happen in Andhra during the Sankranthi Season. People are vexed with the bans and stay orders issued by courts just before the festival season due to the petitions moved by PETA/NGOs/Social Activists. BJP Leader Raghurama Krishnam Raju kept fighting for continuing the tradition since the past few years by challenging the ban on Cockfights. It has become a routine that State Government succumbs to the pressure mounted by people/politicians and grant permission during the three days of festival.
Politicos want State Government to legalize cockfights in AP, just alike Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu. They don't even bother if Government impose taxes by legalizing such betting-related activities. Even People of Coastal Andhra Districts take cockfights as a matter of prestige and wishes to safeguard the age-old tradition at any cost. Let's see what will happen in the next one month period!
