The decision to scrap old currency notes with denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 crore worked in favour of the Municipalities in the country. Due to the pressure from State Governments, Centre permitted people to pay taxes they should pay for municipalities using the banned notes. As a result, Revenue of 47 Municipalities in the country were at an all-time high in the month of November.
In Hyderabad alone, Rs 208 crore have been collected in the form of taxes till November 22nd. Big Shots who kept delaying payments for years have settled the dues after the note ban. In November 2015, GHMC received just Rs 8 crore income through taxes. This comparison itself highlight the numerous of Tax Evaders in Hyderabad alone.
In Nation's financial capital, Municipality received Rs 3,185 crore revenue last year. In 2016, The taxation income has gone up to Rs 11.913 crore by now. Similar trend could be noticed in each and every municipality in the country.
