Ahead of the highly anticipated West Bengal Assembly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is currently touring in the poll-bound state. He is touring in the state vigorously.

As a major setback to the Home Minister, a Bengal court, designated for the MP/MLAs issued summons to Shah. In the summons, the Court directed him to appear before the court personally or through an advocate on the 22nd of this month.

The Court issued summons based on the defamation case filed by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The special judge of the MP/MLA court has directed the Home Minister to appear before the court on February 22 at 10 am either in person or by pleader. The Judge said, Shah must appear before the court to give his answer for the defamation charges.

According to the media reports, Amit Shah reportedly made defamatory statements against Abhishek Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew at a rally.

The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) rally was held back on August 11, 2018. Based on Amit Shah's comments, a defamation suit was filed under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
