Popular film director held in idol smuggling

Well known Tamil director and producer V Sekhar was arrested in a smuggling case. The director who is known for his message oriented films was arrested by the Idol division of Economic Offences Wing, for his suspected role in an idol smuggling racket.
As per reports eight idols worth Rs 80 crore were stolen from two temples in Tamil Nadu in January this year and these stolen idols were allegedly recovered from Sekar's residence.
Police said that the filmmaker had smuggled 8 'Panchaloha' idols in addition to providing shelter for men involved in the murky business.Special police team is now on the lookout for 11 other men including a college student.
The police had arrested small-time production manager Danalingam in May and the investigation led to arrest of Sekar. The arrest of Shekar stunned many as he was known for thought provoking movies.For, throughout his career, the veteran filmmaker had made movies that preached morals to the people, especially middle class.
