Discontent among Telangana IAS officers

Discontent is brewing among a section of the IAS officers in Telangana. They are growing allegations that the power is now getting concentrated among a handful of IAS officers, who are holding several key portfolios and are leaving the remaining officers with insignificant departments. Some IAs officers are handling four to five departments, while the others are remaining in the same position for years.

Recently, senior civil servant Raghunandan Rao was entrusted with the agriculture department. Rao is already handling panchayat raj department as its chief commissioner. He is also the head of the committee that is probing into the endowment temple land grab case. He has been given agriculture department as Janardhan Reddy, who was holding the position, has been made the chairperson of the TPPSC. Several other IAS officers have more than three or four departments to handle and as a result, are unable to do justice to any department. For instance, senior IAS officer Sunil Sharma is handling R and B department, housing and transport – all key departments. In addition, he is also the MD of the TPSRTC. There are allegations that he is unable to give time to the RTC employees' demands.

Similarly, Jayesh Ranjan, considered to be close to KTR, is handling IT, electronics, medium, small and heavy industries departments. At the same time, several IAS officers working at the district level are left in the lurch. Many have not been given any key department. They point out that Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar himself is handling at least five departments in addition to his responsibility as a CS. All these are leading to policy paralysis, the other IAS officers claim.
