The nationwide Coronavirus vaccination drive has been started in India on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Health care workers and medical staff will be given priority in the vaccine drive in the first phase.

Amid this, it is said that Resident doctors at the famous Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Delhi demanded that they want only the Covishield vaccine and they are not ready to take the Covaxin dose.

The Resident Doctors Association of the hospital has written to the hospital superintendent claiming that the residents are not ready to take the Covaxin vaccine as the clinical trials are still underway.

Given the fear over the safety offered by the Covaxin vaccine dose, a majority of resident doctors at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have reportedly stayed out of the vaccination drive.

It has to be noted that earlier reports claimed that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine comes with a consent form that mentions that the third phase of the clinical trials are underway and the vaccine efficacy is yet to be established.

A letter which is claimed to have been written by the Resident Doctors Association of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is going rounds on social media which is adding fuel to the growing concerns of the safety offered by Covaxin.

Earlier, the union government announced that the beneficiaries will not be provided with the choice to pick the vaccine they want to take and interchangeable vaccines will not be entertained.

Now it's interesting to know whether the government permits the resident doctors to pick the vaccine dose they want to take among the two vaccines or the doctors will be left with no other choice except for taking the vaccine dose.
