DRDO's 2-DG Drug works against all Covid variants effectively : A study

It is known that the military research body Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) developed an anti-Covud drug, 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) to treat the Covid patients. A recent study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of the drug.
The study has found out that the anti-Covid oral drug is effective against all the variants of novel Coronavirus. The drug works in a way by hindering the multiplication of the Covid-19 causing SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The research was conducted by researchers from various institutions from Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, Delhi, and Ghaziabad's Academy for Scientific and Innovative Research.
In the study, the researchers said that the findings were based on the analysis conducted on two variants of Covid-19- B.6 and B.1.1.7. But the researchers were confident of the drug being effective towards the other variants based on the antiviral property of the drug.
The Covid-19 virus in the patient's body, who takes the drug, gets weakened as the drug stops the virus from getting multiplied and stops the virus was using the glucose from the infected cells.
The drug, manufactured in powder format, helps the Covid-19 patients in recovering from the virus quickly and the need for the patients to be on the oxygen facilities will be reduced largely.
The anti-Covid drug received emergency use authorisation from the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) to treat moderate to severe Covid-19 patients. Like the Glucose powder, it can also be taken with water.
