That's Not A Reason For Rapes: Nirmala Sitharaman
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 May 2018 4:17 PM GMTDefence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman didn't hesitate to say government agencies will be able to do little to stop crimes against women just because many of these atrocities are committed by family members or friends. 'What can Government do when people who are close to women exploit them?,' she questioned.
Nirmala Sitharaman opined most number of crimes against women are happening in their homes, not on the streets. She also mentioned about the hurdles faced by Government Agencies and Women's Commissions while handling crimes involved by victim's family members or friends.
The Union Minister made it clear crimes against women have nothing to do with the kind of clothes they wear. 'Few people say rapes happen due to women's dressing sense. If it's true, why elderly women and infants are violated?,' she asked.
