The shocking result took place in Nalasopara town in Maharashtra. 80-year-old Ganpat Naik, who runs a rice-mill received a current bill of Rs 80 crore on Monday.
After receiving the bills, the elderly man complained of high blood pressure. Following this, his family members rushed him to a nearby hospital.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) termed this as an inadvertent error and rectified the error. A fresh current bill has been issued for Naik.
MSEDCL official said the incident happened with the mistake of the agency which is into meter reading. Instead of six digits, the agency has issued a bill of nine digits. When the electricity board is looking into the issue, the agency issued the current bill.
Naik's grandson, Niraj said, the current bill left every one of them scared as the electricity board is in the process of recovering the amount from the customers that are pending since the lockdown period. We had relief after the clarification from the electricity board, he said.
