Election Commission's Good Idea To Help Migrants Vote!
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 Dec 2022 11:24 AM GMTVote power is a big weapon one enjoys in India. It is a power that is granted by the Indian Constitution to cast their vote to the contest of their choice once they attain a certain age. The present age to get a vote right is 18.
Though voting right is given to everyone it becomes a tough task for voters to cast their right if they move to other places for education or job or other purposes. They have to travel all the way to places where they have vote to use it.
Now the Election Commission has started an idea that enables voters to vote remotely. They can vote anywhere in India and their votes will be calculated. As we have moved to EVM machines now it is easy to register the votes and count them.
Saying that only 67.4 percent of voters cast their votes and the rest could not due to various reasons the Election Commission said that there is a need to address this. The top election body also said that internal migration is one of the prominent reasons behind this.
To address that the Election Commission made a machine that can accept votes for up to 72 constituencies. Based on the person who is voting the options will be changed so that the migrants won't lose their votes.
In a letter sent to the political parties, the Election Commission reportedly mentioned all the issues and changes that need to be made to bring the new change into existence.
As the new EVM is not known to us, the political parties are invited for a demonstration session by the Election Commission of India. At the session, the political parties will be made to understand the new EVM.
