Though reports claimed that, Tesla will start a unit in any one of the northern states, the BJP-ruled Karnataka bagged the opportunity to welcome India's first Tesla plant.
BJP leader Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa took to social media to confirm the news of Tesla starting its hub in Karnataka. He said, an R&D unit will be launched in Bengaluru very soon and the operations will be started.
"Karnataka will lead India's journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome Elon Musk to India and Karnataka and wish him all the very best," Yediyurappa's tweet reads.
On the other hand, Tesla is in talks with the government of four other states too. Based on the demand and performance, Tesla is likely to be expanded in other states too. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are in consideration reportedly.
It has been widely reported that as a pilot project, Tesla will bring the cheapest vehicle in the Indian market first, and then the costly vehicles are also likely to be running on the Indian roads.

So far, several startups that offer, pay, and use rides in electric vehicles have already launched in Karnataka and the operations started to show promising results since the unlocking in the nation.
