Even Supreme Court Cant Stop Demolition Drives Across States?

As if the issues in the country are not enough, India found a new issue in the demolitions of alleged illegal constructions. The trend was first started in the Bharatiya Janata Party's stronghold Uttar Pradesh and it got spread to other states as well. Most of the BJP-ruled states are following the trend.

There is a strong criticism that the demolition drive is targeting the Muslim community. Once again, the demolition drive row reached the Supreme Court yet again as multiple petitions were filed with the Apex Court seeking a complete ban on the demolitions.

Sadly for the petitioners, the Supreme Court said that it cannot impose a ban. As a reason behind saying no to the ban, the Supreme Court told the petitioners that the demolition drive and stopping it lies in the hands of the Municipal department.

The Supreme Court's response came as a big surprise to the petitioners who pinned high hopes that the Supreme Court would give them a big relief. With the Supreme Court saying no to imposing a ban, now the petitioners have nowhere to go.

The opposition parties and the Muslim community have been saying that only the properties that belong to Muslims are being targeted by the administration and cleverly they are citing the rules to carry out the demolition drive.

We have to wait and see what the petitioners will now do to fight against the demolition drive. There is an opinion that they might move another bench of justices in this regard. However, there is no info on this as of now.
