Hijab row: Ex-Actress stands in solidarity with students

A lot is being said about the ongoing Hijab controversy for the past month. The Muslim students are getting support from one and all. To stand in solidarity with the students, the celebrities are openly voicing out their support. Another celebrity joined the list now.

Former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim who had quit the entertainment industry in 2019 had turned the supporter of the Muslim students and alleged that women are being harassed in the name of their religion.

Extending her support to the students, the ex-actress said that the opinion that hijab is a choice in Islam is a wrong notion and Hijab is an obligation in the religion.

In a long note shared on her Instagram account, the former actress said that she as a woman wears Hijab with gratitude and humility. Zaira Wasim said that she is resisting the system that stops women from continuing their religious commitment.

"Stacking this bias against Muslim women and setting up systems where they should have to decide between education and hijab or to give up either is an absolute injustice.

You're attempting to compel them to make a very specific choice that feeds your agenda and then criticising them while they're imprisoned in what you've constructed. There is no other option to encourage them to choose differently.

What is this if not a bias with people who confirm it acting in support of it (sic)?" Zaira Wasim said in her long note.

The Hijab controversy erupted when a few Mulsim students were not allowed to enter a college in Hijab. The incident was followed by a series of protests in various parts of Karnataka and India as well.
