Under his captaincy, India went on to win three International Cricket Council(ICC) Trophies. Dhoni had ended the long wait of India to lift the 50-over World Cup after 28 years in 2011.
Besides his success rate, other factors like his on-field tactics and cool presence of mind make him special from others. The former coach had highlighted another reason that places former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni stand alone.
Flamboyant player and former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri talked about an aspect that probably no one had spoken about earlier.
Shastri said Dhoni has the ability to keep his distance from the mobile gadgets for a few days at a stretch if decides. Dhoni is not like someone who likes to carry a phone in hand. He never does that. Dhoni is a person who is not in favour of carrying phones, Ravi Shastri said.
Ravi Shastri also said that he didn't have the number of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as he had never asked for the same. Giving a reason for this, the former Head Coach of the Indian team said that Dhoni doesn't like to carry a phone. Shastri said that people can approach Dhoni if they want to get in touch.
Ravi Shastri also highlighted the balanced and good temperament of Dhoni. He said that irrespective of the performance Dhoni remains calm. No matter if he scores a ton or zero, he will have the same temperament. I have seen Sachin Tendulkar losing his cool in a few instances, which is not the case with Dhoni, he said.
"Even if he scores a zero, or scores a hundred, or win the World Cup, or lose in the first round, it doesn't make a difference to him. I have seen a lot of cricketers, but there is no one like him. Even Sachin Tendulkar has a fantastic temperament, but he sometimes gets angry. But Dhoni doesn't,' Ravi Shastri said, talking about Dhoni's temperament.
Ravi Shastri had a good association with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. During his stint as the India Team Manager and the head coach, Shastri traveled with Dhoni and got the opportunity to get an insight into Dhoni's nature.
