FB's No Secrecy Clause For Political Ads
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 Dec 2018 1:25 PM GMTTo maintain transparency, Facebook made it mandatory for Advertisers to disclose their identity and location to place Political Ads. First of all, Political Parties or Individuals who wish to run ads on Facebook and Instagram will have to complete authorization by uploading their Passport Photo, Scan of Driving License, PAN Card, Voter ID & also provide India-based Residential Address. This process may take several weeks to complete.
Advertiser can choose one of the two options - 'Confirm his/her Location by allowing someone from FB to visit their residence' or 'Receive a Code in the post' for confirmation of the Authorization.
From Early 2019, Facebook will show a Disclaimer on all political ads. Disclaimer will have information about who is placing the Ad. An Online Searchable Ad Library will be kept available for anyone to access the information about the Advertiser. This library consists of information related to all the political ads, be it budget or range of impressions or demographics of who viewed the ad.
Facebook clarifies eligible new publishers aren't required to get authorized. This is an exercise done to improve transparency and prevent foreign interference in Indian Elections.
