Fact Behind KKR Disowning Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir who led Kolkata Knight Riders successfully for seven years hasn't been retained by the franchise in the recent Auction. He was instrumental in helping KKR emerge champions in 2012 and 2014.
Cricket Lovers assumed the reason could be the reluctance of Kolkata Knight Riders to pay a huge salary to the Left-Hander Batsman. Had if KKR retained Gambhir, He could have certainly pocked either Rs 15 crore or anywhere around Rs 10 crore. Much to everyone's surprise, KKR didn't use RTM to claim Gambhir when Delhi Daredevils won the bid for just Rs 2.80 crore.
Finally, KKR CEO Venky Mysore put all the speculations to rest with a clarification. 'Actually, KKR wanted to continue using Gambhir's services further. Gambhir himself requested the Team Management not to bid for him. We refrained from bidding for him or using RTM as KKR won't come in the way of anyone's progress or aspirations. It's tough for us to see him leave the franchise after seven great years,' he told.
Gambhir is the highest run-scorer for KKR with 3,345 runs in 122 matches. From now, He would serve as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils with Ricky Ponting as Head Coach.
