We, the human race, are technically advanced animals of this rock called Earth and we determined the speed of light, sound and mass of even galaxies.
We are trying to learn new things all the time. But can we determine how fast or slow we trust and share gossips, even in this technologically advanced day and age?
Once upon a time, people did not have news portals, 24 hours news channels and they used to believe in whatever is said in a believable tone and gossiping became a strong popular activity.
Still, even when we can check out facts and think about things radically, we still gossip and try to share it out as fast as we can.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, scientists came up with a research to determine the speed at which the fake news reports and gossips are being shared by people over social media.
They took a total of 1,26,000 viral tweets from 2006 to 2017. Out of them, 70% are said to be gossips and fake news.
Fake and interesting news items have been shared by people 15 to 20 times faster in comparison to real news.
This has been phenomenon all over the world and scientists attributed this to the need for people to feel cool and share some thing interesting faster than being smart and trying to share only news that matters.
