US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created a Fake University to trap Illegal Immigrants in the country. By doing so, As many as 600 Foreigners who were staying in the United States illegally have been detained. Around 200 out of them have been identified as Telugus.

8 Telugu People were arrested on charges of helping Foreigners reach United States without proper Immigration Papers. They were identified as Barath Kakireddy, Naveen Prathipati, Suresh Kandala, Phanideep Karnati, Prem Rampeesa, Santosh Sama, Avinash Thakkallapally and Aswanth Nune. All of them are in their late 20s or early 30s. They helped around 600 foreign nationals stay in the US illegally from February 2017 to January 2019.

As per the latest update, Another 14 Telugu Students (including Three Women) were detained.

In 2015, DHS set up a Fake University by name University Of Maine at Farmington in Detroit. US Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) Officials conducted this sting operation acting as the University Staff handling the admissions. All the Students who enrolled to the Fake University knew there won't be any teaching sessions. This is an operation aimed at identifying the illegal immigrants. Among those detained were those Students who completed Masters and applied for H-1B Visa. Investigation revealed few Students have obtained jobs with fake Masters Degree.
