Farm Bills Row: Farmer Union Knocks On The Doors Of Supreme Court Against Bills!
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 Dec 2020 3:16 PM GMTThe farmers and farmer leaders who have been protesting against the controversial agricultural bills introduced by the union government are not taking a back step. The agitation is getting intensified with each day passing.
Even the multiple talks between the union government and farmers union leaders didn't help in bringing the situation under control. The suggestions given by the government were not accepted by the farmers.
With the talks didn't come in handy, a non-partisan farmer's representative organisation has knocked on the doors of the supreme court to seek directives to scrap the agricultural bills.
The Bhartiya Kisan Union moved the Supreme Court to scrap the three agricultural laws which were passed by the Parliament in September this year. The petition was filed by Kisan Union's president Bhanu Pratap Singh
In the petition, The Bhartiya Kisan Union maintained that the agricultural bills are against the interests of the farmers and the bill trio will push the agriculture sector into commercialization.
The centre has passed three agricultural bills, the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act.
After the government passed the bills, the farmers and farmer unions from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh have called for protests which have been going on for a few weeks.
