Telangana ranked Second in Farmers Suicides

As per the data of National Crime Records Bureau, Telangana is only second in the list of states in the country where most number of farmers suicides were recorded in the year 2014.
Last year, About 898 farmers of Telangana committed suicides due to various reasons like drought, poor yields, unseasonal rains and heavy loans. About 23.2 percent of suicides in the state happened due to bankruptcy.
Maximum number of suicides have been recorded in Warangal and Medak districts. Most of the farmers in these two districts have obtained lands on lease expecting good gains but they end up incurring losses and the debts amount continued to grow, forcing them to take extreme steps.
Experts say, Declining Groundwater Level in Telangana is a major issue that need to be addressed at the earliest.
