Flash: Jayalalithaa denied BAIL!

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has been denied bail by Karnataka High Court on Tuesday.

Jayalalithaa's counsel Ram Jethmalani urged suspense of suspension of jail sentence for his client under Section 389 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Citing Lalu Prasad Yadav's case in fodder scam an an example, He appealed Justice AC Chandrashekhara to grant bail for Jayalalithaa who is lodged in Parapana Agrahara central jail since September 27th. He also found fault with the judgement by Special Court in the Rs 66.65 crore illegal assets case by citing assets prior to period between 1991-1996 can't be taken into account.

Special public prosecutor made it clear there is no objection if a conditional bail was granted to the convicts in the disproportionate assets case. However, High Court refused to grant bail to Jayalalithaa citing there is not sufficient grounds for awarding bail to the former CM.
