Former all-rounder Chris Cairns who represented the Black caps across the platforms was kept on life support after his health deteriorated, reports say.

It has been widely reported that Chris Cairns had collapsed owing to his health condition.

The New Zealand media said that he was admitted to a hospital earlier this week by his family members as he has been suffering from heart related issues.

Despite performing several operations, he didn't respond which forced the doctors to keep him on life support, reports claimed.

However an official statement from the New Zealand cricket board is awaited in this regard.

Cairns played 62 tests, 215 one-day internationals and two Twenty20 matches for New Zealand between 1989-2006 before becoming a television pundit.

Chris Cairns, who is dubbed as one of the best all-rounder players, has represented New Zealand in 62 test matches and 215 50-over matches. However, he had played only a mere two matches in the short format of the game.
