Future looks bleak for Congress, nowhere in reckoning in MLC polls
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 March 2021 2:54 AM GMTWhat is the future of the Congress Party in Telangana? Will it ever be able to capture the people's imagination once again anytime in future? Will it be able to bounce back in Telangana?
These were the natural questions that came up even as the votes of the MLC graduates constituency elections were being counted. In both the seats, the Congress failed to inspire confidence in the young, educated, graduate voters. It's candidates Ramulu Naik in Warangal-Khammam-Karimnagar seat and Chinna Reddy in Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency fared poorly. While Ramulu Naik was in the fifth position trailing behind two independents - Teenmaar Mallanna and Prof. Kodandaram, Chinna Reddy stood a poor fourth trailing behind Prof. Nageshwar, an independent. That independents like Prof. Nageshwar, Prof Kodandaram scored more votes than the Congress tells the sorry plight of the party that ruled the country for decades.
Now the hopes of the Congress Party are all focused on Nagarjunasagar bypolls, where the party candidate is senior leader K Jana Reddy. However, he is up against the might of the TRS and it remains to be seen what would be his position in this high-stakes bypoll.
