Future looks bleak for this senior politician
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 Aug 2021 3:54 AM GMTTill 2019, he was the unquestioned king of his constituency. Whether in Congress or in the TRS, his word was a law. Such was his clout. But a solitary defeat has changed it all. Today, he is fighting for his own political existence and is worried about keeping his flock together. This is the story of former minister and Kollapur former MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao.
Jupally Krishna Rao had lost from Kollapur assembly constituency in Mahabubnagar at a time when his party registered an astounding victory. That was the beginning of a series of reversals. In the later developments, Congress MLA Harshavardhan Reddy, who defeated him in 2018, had joined the TRS. Since then, the TRS has given him all powers in the constituency. Reddy began slowly undercutting Jupally's base.
In the local body elections, Jupally rebelled and put up candidates with a tiger symbol. He managed to win a majority and proved a point. But, the party's leadership did not recognize him. Though he had managed to get KCR's audience, there was no assurance. It has been two years and he is yet to get any nominated post. Sources say the party is still ignoring him. Though he has been in touch with both the Congress and the BJP, he is unable to take the plunge and join any party.
As a result, Jupalli Krishna Rao finds himself at the crossroads. The big question is what if the TRS does not give him a ticket in the 2023 assembly elections. Will he contest as a rebel? Or will he join either Congress or the BJP to fight from Kollapur? Will he be able to work under politicians like Revanth Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, who are much junior to him?
