Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi's great-granddaughter has been accused of defrauding two businessmen. Ashish Lata Ramgobin has been arrested and produced before court for defrauding two businessmen for more than $830,000 in South Africa. Police arrested her in her Durban home and produced her before the court.

According to reports Ramgobin allegedly cheated the businessman claiming that she had secured a tender to import bedding from India for the private hospital group Netcare.

The 45 year old Ramgobin allegedly provided fake invoices and documents to convince the investors. She showed forged documents to make them to believe that three containers of linen were being shipped in from India.

A businessman named as S R Maharaj is said to have provided 6.2 million rands and another businessman allegedly advanced 5.2 million rands by believing her promises. Ramgobin is the daughter of human rights activist Ela Gandhi, a granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi. Forty-five-year-old Ramgobin appeared in the Court on Monday on charges of theft, fraud and forgery.
