GHMC Elections Likely In December

If all goes well, the State Election Commission is all set to conduct the GHMC elections in December this year. A notification, according to SEC sources, is likely expected in November. The term of the GHMC ends in February 2021. The elections would have to be held before the date.
The election commission has already made it clear that the elections would be held by the ballot paper mode and not the EVM mode. This decision has been taken to minimise the contact and restrict the speed of the spread of Covid 19. Already 6000 ballot boxes have been brought to Hyderabad for the conduct of the elections. The GHMC elections need nearly 30000 ballot boxes.
The GHMC elections are of crucial importance as at least one third of the population of Telangana state would go to vote and this will be a virtual referendum on the performance of the State Government. With a budget of over 6500 crore and a tax income to the State Government to a tune of Rs 1 lakh crore, the GHMC is of critical importance to Telangana state.
