The press has a bigger role to play in society as it educates people on the good and bad the government is doing. Given the vital role it plays, the press is called the fourth estate, and the Media is placed along with Judiciary, Legislature, and Executive.

Compared to other nations, the media is expected to do wonders while rendering services in democratic nations like India. Though the world sees India as the biggest democracy in the world, the press doesn't enjoy as much freedom as it was expected to enjoy.

Yesterday marked World Freedom Day, a day that is dedicated to highlighting the role the media has to play and honoring the journalists who do their work without taking any side. On this occasion, the international media watchdog had issued a list of nations in terms of press freedom.

But the list shows that the Press doesn't enjoy that much freedom as India was ranked 150 in the list of 180 nations. What's even more concerning is that, compared to the previous year, India’s rank had fallen on the list by eight positions.

While giving the rankings to the nations, the firm had requested that it is high time the attacks against the media personnel should be stopped in India as the cases filed against the media are growing with each passing day.
