Great Honour For Kamini Roy By Google

Google celebrated the Bengali Poet on the eve of her 155th Birth Anniversary with a Doodle created by artist Helene Leroux. In the Doodle, Roy holds her poems book titled 'Koto Valobashi'.
Born on October 12th, 1864 in Basanda Village of Bakergunj district in the Bengal Presidency. This region had later fallen in Brisal district of Bangladesh. She belongs to Bengali Baidya Family. Her Father Chandi Charan Sen wasn't only a judge and writer but also a member of Brahmo Samaj.
Kamini Roy was one of the first girls to attend school in British India. She got enrolled to Bethune School in 1883 and graduated from Bethune College of the Calcutta University in 1886. Roy began teaching in the same university from that year. In 1894, She quit teaching and began publishing her own works.
Roy always believes the sole purpose of Women Education is achieving fulfillment of their potential and contribute to their all-round development. Her efforts to help Bengali Women achieve their fundamental right to vote in 1926 is commendable.
Against the practice, Kamini Roy got married to Kedarnath Roy at the age of 30 when child marriages were very common. University of Calcutta honoured her with Jagattarini Gold Medal for her contribution in the field of literature. Roy passed away on September 27th, 1933.
