Has Rayalaseema completely slipped out of TDP hands?

Though the opposition TDP is trying every trick in the trade to get even with the ruling YSRCP, its position is not showing much improvement. Even the recent Mood of the Nation Survey has proved that the TDP has a long way to go before it catches up with the YSRCP. But, one clear trend is emerging. Despite the gap between the YSRCP and the TDP, there are unmistakable signs that the gap is slowly but surely narrowing.

TDP might recuperate itself in north coastal Andhra and even the twin Godavari districts with some help from Pawan Kalyan-led Jana Sena. But, there are four districts where the YSRCP is towering over the rivals and the TDP might find it extremely difficult to make up the lost ground. The region is rayalaseema and the districts are: Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool and Chittoor. Even Nellore appears to be a lost case for the opposition TDP.

The YSRCP appears to be formidably placed in Chandrababu's home turf of Chittoor. According to political observers, the YSRCP is comfortably placed in the 28 constituencies in these two districts. In two thirds of the constituencies in these two districts, the TDP does not have strong candidates. In Kadapa, except two or three assembly constituencies, most of the constituencies do not have strong candidates.

Political analysts say that out of the 48 seats in Rayalaseema, the YSRCP can comfortably win over 30 seats if elections are held today. In Nellore district too, a similar situation exists and the TDP does not have formidable candidates. As of now, Chandrababu may have to work really hard to win back Rayalaseema, say analysts.
