Meteorological Department Issues Red Alert In Hyderabad

The capital city Hyderabad is being hit by torrential rains. Hyderabad Meteorological Department officials said that the surface trough and cyclone formed in Kakinada is heading towards Maharashtra via Hyderabad.

The heavy rains are expected to continue for another three days. The meteorological department issued a red alert in Hyderabad and issued warnings that people should not come out unless it is an emergency.

Tuesday's rain washed away an 18-year-old record. In the year 2002, the city of Hyderabad received 23 cm of rainfall.

As heavy rainfall led to waterlogging on several roads and low lying areas in the state, the Telangana government has declared holidays on Wednesday and Thursday for all private institutions, offices and non-essential services.
