How Amaravati will be saved from Floods?
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Sep 2016 7:34 AM GMTHeavy rains resulting in flooding in the Guntur district came as an eye-opener for AP Government. Now, A strategy is being chalked out to prevent flooding of AP Capital Amaravati region.
Actually, The Kondaveeti Vagu flowing into Krishna river is being linked to Guntur. Officials were now planning to de-link Kondaveeti Vagu from Guntur channel with the construction of a new sluice at Prakasam barrage, so that flooding could be minimized. In addition, Water will be pumped out from Kondaveeti Vagu to Krishna River wherever there is heavy in-flow.
A proposal in this regard will be forwarded to the National Green Tribunal (NGT). This de-linking project would just cost Rs 50 lakh to the State Government. Diversion of flood water from Kondaveeti Vagu to the Western Main Canal of Krishna river is being considered as the alternative.
