The coronavirus that originated from Wuhan of China has killed not less than 1,000 people and infected around 45,000 people till now was declared as the public enemy by the United Nations health agency.

The virus was spread to almost a dozen countries as per the records.

The coronavirus was renamed as COVID-19 officially by the World Health Organisations(WHO) and it is expected that the deadly virus was shifted to humans from a yet-to-be-identified animal host.

The virus gets transmitted from a person to another person and can be spread primarily with contact with an infected person through respiratory droplets created when the infected person coughs or sneezes.

According to the present situations the scientists have found out that the deadly virus has the reproductive value of between 2.24 to 3.58, which states that an infected person could pass on the pathogen to two to four people.

'The development of vaccines and therapeutics is one important part of the research agenda. But it's not only one part,' said Tedros, the WHO chief.

'They will take time to develop but in the meantime, we're not defenceless. There are many basic public health interventions that are available to us now and which can prevent infections now,' he added.

Practicing good hygiene, including washing your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based rub, and covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing is the most effective way to prevent the infection.
