How OTTs and Multiplexes are Eating Single-Screen Theatres?

The entertainment industry is one of the biggest industries in the country. The film industry has a long history and legacy and the industry has been running for over 100 years. Recently, the film industry celebrated the 100 years of its inception in a big way and the veteran members of the film fraternity were honored in a bid to recognize their valuable contributions to the industry.

The theatre system is a big player in the film industry as it enables movie lovers to watch films. The theatres are also the refined product of the moving screens. Earlier, the films were projected on a big cloth, and later the theatres came in and the establishments forayed into the villages as well.

The multiplexes are the current trend in the theatre system. The multiplexes are getting bigger in numbers and the cities are the major contributors to the multiplexes. The multiplex owners are aiming at bringing the multiplex culture to small towns too, and the trend is a big game-changer.

Though the multiplexes are getting increased, the growing trend is resulting in the theatres getting closed. Compared to ten years ago, the theatres' count was cut down massively due to various reasons like the growing maintenance costs and the dip in the interest of movie lovers to go to theatres to watch films.

Currently, the OTTs are seeing massive growth and even after the theatres got reopened, a few films were released on OTTs. The popularity of OTTs increased to a point where the makers have urged the OTTs to not stream the films unless the theatrical release completes eight weeks.

The single-screen theatres are expected to get vanished in the country in the coming years. Many theatres were shut already and a few were given on a lease. On top of this, the soaring prices of movie tickets are making it thought for the establishments to see footfalls.

The growth of the multiplexes and the rise in the popularity of the OTTs are killing the single-screen theaters. If the same continues, we cannot see the single-screen theatres cut to ten years from now.
