Hundreds of Whatsapp groups Created Ahead of Delhi riots

In a shocking revelation, the Delhi police found that communal elements have created a large number of Whatsapp groups to share information about the communal arson in the northeaster part of the national capital. These groups were used to circulate inflammatory videos and messages even as the arson began. This shows that there was a clear cut plan to incite violence in Delhi.
A large portion of these Whatsapp groups were created on February 23 and 24, even as tensions roles in Delhi. Many old videos were circulated among the users. The groups gave real time information about where to gather and whose houses to attack. The crowds were mobilised. The cars were targeted on seeing if there was a deity placed at the dashboard. Only after ascertaining the region of the owner, the cars were set on fire, the police now reveal. The police are now in the process of identifying the culprits on the basis of the phone conversations. Some local criminals colluded with the gang members from neighbouring Loni, Ghaziabad and other Western UP towns and perpetrated violence, the police said.
The police have booked as many as 46 cases under the Arms Act and 436 FIRs in connection with the violence. As many as 34 persons have been arrested and another 1427 persons have been detained for questioning, the police said.
