Husband thrashes woman MLA in public, video surfaces

Scam after scam is leaving the supposedly squeaky-clean image of the Aam Aadmi Party soiled. As if the liquor scam of Delhi's Manish Sisodia, CNG bus scam and the poor condition of the Delhi government schools were not enough to malign the party, even the MLAs and their kin are creating unsavoury scenes for the party.
The latest embarrassment for the party is in Punjab. Local AAP leader Sukhraj Bal has thrashed his wife and Punjab MLA Prof. Baljit Kaur in full public view. According to the CCTV footage available, Bal had thrashed Kaur in front of the family members in connection with a family dispute. The footage has gone viral on the social media, much to the discomfiture of the party in Punjab.
The incident purportedly happened on July 10, but has come to light just now. There is no formal complaint lodged by anyone, including MLA Baljit Kaur, against Sukhraj Bal. However, the locals, who are outraged by the footage, are demanding that Sukhraj Bal be arrested and prosecuted. Interestingly, neither Sukhraj Bal or his MLA-wife Baljit Kaur have commented on the incident.
Sources say that the State Women's Commission is mulling taking suo motu cognisance of the incident and booking a case against Sukhraj Bal. In Delhi too, AAP minister and senior leader Somnath Bharti was arrested in connection with a case of domestic violence. The case is still pending, say sources.
