Huzurabad bypolls by August-end?
By: Tupaki Desk | 7 July 2021 4:25 AM GMTIf all goes well, the Central Election Commission could issue the notification for bypolls across the country. As many as 50 MLA seats are lying vacant in various states and the CEC wants to issue a notification by mid-July and conduct the polling by August end. A final decision would be taken by the CEC, which is meeting on July 9 in New Delhi.
Among the prominent states that need to conduct bypolls immediately are: UP (7 seats), West Bengal (7 seats) Manipur (6 seats), Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Assam (3 each). However, for the people of Telangana, Huzurabad bypolls are of great importance. Former Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, who has resigned from the TRS and from the Telangana assembly, is seeking re-election from Huzurabad. For both the ruling TRS and Eatala Rajender, the election is a make-or-break contest. The leaders of both the parties are camping in Huzurabad and are conducting hectic electioneering despite Covid conditions. The leaders are reaching out to the voters, influencers and vote-getters in a systematic manner.
On behalf of the ruling TRS, several ministers are now staying put in Huzurabad. Mandal incharges have been appointed. The BJP too is marshalling all its resources to ensure a victory for the party candidate. Meanwhile, both the major contenders are getting public mood surveys done on a regular basis to understand the pulse of the voter. Both the BJP and the TRS are holding group and sectoral meetings every day to motivate the voters.
On behalf of the Congress, however, there is still confusion. Kaushik Reddy, who contested in 2018 elections and polled more than 60000 votes, is planning to contest this time too. However, the Congress is yet to decide on the candidate. In a significant comment, Revanth Reddy has told some media houses that the Congress has never won from Huzurabad after 1983 and that the party would put up a huge fight to win this time. He has also said that his focus is on 2023 elections more than the Huzurabad bypoll. Indirectly, he has indicated that the Congress may not perform well in the bypolls.
