As part of the seat-sharing, Congress offered Mandhya Lok Sabha Seat for JD (S) inspite of knowing Sumalatha is aspiring to contest after the death of her Husband Ambareesh. Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy decided to field his Son Nikhil Gowda in Mandya Parliament Segment. This development prompted the Senior Actress to seriously consider contesting as Independent.
Slogan 'Swabhimanakkaagi Sumalatha' (Sumalatha for Self-Respect) is now gripping Mandya Constituency. Ambareesh hails from Mandya and he has got a good reputation. People of Mandya treat Sumalatha as their Daughter-in-Law and they respect her for the dignified behaviour she is known for. More than anything else, She is riding high on the sympathy wave.
On the other hand, Most people in Mandya aren't happy with JD (S) fielding an outsider even if he is the son of Chief Minister.
Speaking to media, Nikhil Kumar exuded confidence of winning against Sumalatha. He claims to have taken the decision to contest Lok Sabha Polls to fulfil the wish of Mandya People.
