IAS officers Lapses Responsible For Markaz Meet?

The Union Home Ministry has taken a very serious view of the errors committed by some senior IAS and IPS officers in allowing the highly controversial Tagbligh Jamaat meeting in Delhi's Nizamuddin at a time when the whole country was under a lockdown due to Corona scare.

At least four civil servants were found to have been insenstitive to the seriousness of the meet. How the Tabligh could hold such a meeting in Delhi, especially during corona scare have baffled the Union Home Ministry. Over 12000 people have attended the meeting. Though the Delhi government now says that it had prohibited all public gatherings on March 13 only, the meeting was held on March 16 to 18 and several preachers from across the world have come to attend the programme. How people on tourist visas could attend the religious meets is another big question. Interestingly, the Markaz was served a notice by the Nizamuddin police on March 23 itself. But, the officials appear to have soft-pedalled the issue.

Now the Government has ordered a comprehensive probe into the Markaz congregation. Head are bound to roll and restrictions would be imposed on the Tabligh over such congregations in future. The Home Minisrty is alarmed at the preachers had actually asked those who gathered not to follow isolation due to Corona virus. Tapes of these speeches are now in the possession of the Home Ministry.
