The world governing body of cricket International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced a new section of awards on Wednesday. The aim of introducing the new award is to celebrate the performances of the players.

The ICC announced the ICC Player of the Month awards to recognize the best performance of the players of male and female players in international cricket across the formats.

The winners of the new award will be declared based on the votes they get from the fans. Fans have to vote for their favorite male and female cricketers online every month.

Along with the fans, an independent Voting Academy will also vote for the nominees of the ICC Men's Player of the Month and ICC Women's Player of the Month. The committee comprises former players, broadcasters, and journalists.

Every month, the ICC Awards Nominations Committee will nominate three players for each category. The nominations will be made taking aspects like on-field performances and overall achievements during that month into consideration.

The ICC has named players for the first edition of the Player of the Month across the teams, ages, and formats. The nominations include five players from India.

Indian players Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, T. Natarajan, Rishabh Pant, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who played exceptionally well in the Border-Gavaskar trophy were named by the ICC.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (AFG), Joe Root (ENG), Steve Smith (AUS), Marizanne Kapp (SA), Nadine de Klerk (SA), Nida Dar (PAK) were also named by the ICC for the inaugural edition of Player of the Month.
