India's Victory: Kulbhushan's Execution Suspended!
By: Tupaki Desk | 17 July 2019 2:35 PM GMTThe International Court of Justice suspended the execution of retired Navy Officer Kulbhushan Jadhav until Pakistan reviews & reconsiders the conviction. This is a huge victory for the tricolour nation!
Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested by Pakistan in March 2016. Pakistan Military Court awarded death sentence to him on charges of spying. India appealed against Jadhav's conviction in the World Court with an argument that Pakistan kidnapped him from Iran when he had been running business after retiring from the Navy. It's been brought to the notice of International Court that Pakistan violated Vienna Convention by denying consular access to Jadhav.
15 out of 16 Judges of the International Court of Justice opined Pakistan had breached the Vienna Convention in Kulbhushan Jadhav's case. Even the Judge representing China voted in favour of India in this matter. Only the Pakistani Judge differed with it.
ICJ maintained Jadhav have every right for consular access. The World Court turned down Pakistan's objections to admissibility of India's application.
